Part 3

"You two are late! Where have you been?" "We were..." "And together, a man and a girl?" "We are very sorry sir, it's just that..." "No exuses! Just take your seats, and start your studies." "Yes, sir," Tessa and Faren said together. They sat down and started to study. "See I told you that we were going to get in trouble!" Faren whispered to her. "Shh. We'll get in even bigger trouble if you don't hush." "Well.... you had to take one last look for that stupid dragon didn't you!" "Faren, Tessa! Please be quiet!" Tessa glared at Faren. Faren mouthed out, "I'm sorry." Tessa placed a finger up to her mouth. They turned back to their studies. After they got out of their studies they ran down to the creek. "Tessa! Where are you going?" "Were does it look like?" "That dragon won't be there you know." "I can still look, can't I?" Tessa said firmly. "You don't give up, do you?" "You know me better than that." Faren laughed with his deep voice, and Tessa smiled. "I wish it wasn't so cold in the creek, or I'd swim. Then I could wash up and see what I really look like without ten pounds of dirt on me." "Me too. Tessa, watch out!" Faren said as a carriage came towards them at a high speed. He jumped and knocked her down, with himself on top of her to protect her from the horses feet. Once the carriage passed over them it stopped. Faren helped Tessa up, as a man got out of the carriage. "Are you two alright?" "Yes, we're fine. What's the hurry?" "The King and Queen are late for a meet with foriegn visitors." "Y... you mean that royalty is right inside of that coach?" "Yes, oh hold on a moment," the man said and ran back to the carriage. Then he bekoned to the two and said, "They'd like to see you." "Us?" "Yes." Tessa looked at Faren then they hurried over to the carriage. "Y... your Majesties," Tessa said and she and Faren bowed. "Are you young ones alright?" the queen asked. "Yes, yes your majesty. We are fine." "But look at you, you are all dirty. Come now, were are your homes?" "We are but humble children who serve in your castle." "You live in our castle? How is it that we have never seen you playing with the other children?" "We are too busy to play. The only time that we do anything is when we are doing our studies." "Do you ever bathe?" "The water is not warm enough to bathe. We are sorry if we disgust you." "No, no. Have you even had a childhood?" "We were put to work the moment we could. We were needed at that time." "Well, you aren't as needed in the kitchen now, are you?" "We help clean the flateware, but otherwise no." "What are your names, and how old are you?" "I am Faren, and I'm thirty six turns old. This is my friend Tessa, and she is thirty turns old." "Very good. Then I could use you two in the castle. Would you mind?" Tessa's face lit up, "No, we could never mind. I mean, we would love that, very much. Thank you!" "Well climb up on the carriage, and you can ride with the coachman." "Yes, yes your majesties. Thank you, thank you very much!" The queen nodded and the man with them got in and closed the door. Faren helped Tessa up on the carriage then climbed up himself. As they started to move Tessa turned to Faren. "This is great!" "Yes, I agree. Now we can brag to our friend we saw the queen and king." "And now that we work for them." "Wait! We aren't dressed properly." "I sure hope we get new clothes." "If not, at least we got a ride home," Faren joked. Tessa rolled her eyes and laughed.
